A Detailed Post on Post Result Activities that you should do.
Hi,This is just a post where i tell what are the post result activities you should do and what things are definitely avoidable. These are based on my personal experiences when i gave CAT last year(I gave it this year as well).
1.If you are preparing for XAT/Any other B-School entrance exam, keep at it and don't brood over the result/celebrate for too long
2. Start/Keep preparing for the GDPI Rounds without worrying about which college is going to send you an Interview Invite. Start reading the newspapers and go and revise your ug subjects if you are a fresher. Also learn everything about your state(and workplace state) from it's wikipedia page, also about the neighbouring states. It sounds ridiculous but just trust this blindly.
3. Stop asking Random people to review your SOP'S and Profiles(I Have 7 in profile ,will i get iim xyz call??),that time is long gone.Get professionals involved.
4.Get your certificates and work experience documents in order if you haven't till now.
5.The bigger Institutes usually have the interviews before the smaller ones(in most cases). So you have at max 1.5 months till the interviews potentially start.
6. Truth is the most important thing if you are not a master at being interviewed.Just stick to what you know and you'll sail through. The minute you even slightly deviate from it to gain brownie points, they'll strike you down. It is ok to not know something.Attend Some mock interviews to know what I Am talking about.
7.People don't spend a lot of time on this, but WAT Is an important and sometimes the differential part of your interview. So start writing atleast two WAT Essays daily(topics of previous years can be easily found by digging through this subreddit) and get it reviewed by either mentors or chatgpt
8. To people who don't get a very high score but still get a score good enough to get t-1.5/t2 call and have already made up their mind on re-appearing, please give your absolute best shot at the interviews, the gdpi process will be familiar for you the next time and honestly the interviews are not that different at a t1 and a t2 insti ,it's just the competition that varies. The interviewers are really competent, atleast for all the IIMS And IIFT/MDI/SIBM.CAT Prep can genuinely wait till April if you didn't get a pathetic score(you define what is a pathetic score based on your standards)
9 If you feel like you have wasted time on CAT And don't have the will to Try for another year, you can fight with everyone but your best option is to abandon the plan of an MBA Or try a different field or go to A Smaller Insti, gradually working your way up not curse yourself and the conditions around you. Life is too short to be defined by "supposed failure" in an exam.
10. Comparison is the thief of joy. And this thief usually lurks around a lot on IG/LN/Reddit/Even Twt for some idiots .So if possible stay away from these places after the results. Keep working towards giving your best at your own PI.
11.Make a list of Colleges that you need to apply to after the Results are out. For example, most IIT'S(IIT'S Have surprisingly good and most importantly easy placements if you have workex) open their form only after the results are out. There are a few good private instis that do the same.
12. It is very important for a fresher to know about all the subjects from his/her UG and their final year project. At 3 different instances last year, my transcript was picked up and i was asked questions about random subjects the professors knew about/ specialized in(Analog and digital electronics,Operations research,Formal Language and automata were the 3 subjects respectively). Also it goes without saying for everyone that please have a good grasp on mathematics and statistics.
13. Please buy interview clothes ASAP If you think you'll get even 1 interview call.Normally one pair of clothes is more than enough, but if you have the budget,go for two. 1 suit set is enough for guys.
14. You have to start preparing and polishing your answers to the generic MBA Questions (why mba, tell me about yourself, any switches in your profile based on field,Any gaps in your profile) ASAP
15. Do not get intimidated by anyone. A person might seem like **The Great Khali** on the outside but he/she could be exposed to be **Ric Flair**. Actually that is what all of MBA is about. Acting like you know more than you do.But this is definitely should not make you question your own ability and knowledge.
16. Lastly, have a purpose other than the exam and the gdpi prep as well. You need to know what you are going to do in the time between the interviews and the results besides watching IPL,Because if you do make it to a BSchool you will need some certs/internships to build up a profile for the sips which will start almost immediately(it would definitely feel like it).
I Hope everyone here gets a score they thought they would get.Feel free to add more things here in case I forgot some.A Kind request to not open the subreddit after 6 PM If you are not expecting a amazing score and also want to keep your self sane.
